Join BWC on Tuesday, October 23rd as we celebrate our 25th year of service to Boston's women communicators.
We'll welcome Andrea Cabral, former MA Secretary of Public Safety and Sheriff of Suffolk County, who served as the Commonwealth’s Executive Secretary of Public Safety under Governor Deval Patrick. As an Assistant DA for Suffolk County, she was Chief of Suffolk County’s first major felony Domestic Violence Unit, authoring the state’s first continuing legal education manual on domestic violence restraining orders. Andrea has always been a champion of women’s safety, and will lead us in a discussion of the latest women’s issues.
She'll discuss her new role as chief executive of Ascend,
a startup selling both medicinal and recreational marijuana. Ascend plans to open a retail shop in Boston and a growing facility in Athol. We need information on the marijuana business, and to learn how to adapt to these new businesses in our neighborhoods.
We lift a glass in thanks to outgoing President Michelle Gaseau, and welcome our new leader, Kelley Connors.

Come join BWC members and our colleagues at our season-opener on October 23. We’re pleased to present Andrea Cabral, co-host of WGBH's BPR Weekend and weekly contributor at WGBH's Boston Public Radio with Jim Braude and Margery Eagan. In her new role as chief executive of Ascend, she will educate us on adapting to and helping to moderate the marijuana businesses coming to our neighborhoods.
